National Symbols

 

What are our national symbols?

By using the dictionary, the meaning of the word symbol is obtained; image, figure or descry whereupon materially or of word a moral and intellectual concept appears, by some similarity or correspondence, that is understood by perception between this concept and that image.

So that means that the national symbols are those that represent all the aspects of a nation (set of the inhabitants of a country, generally of a same origin, language, customs, tradition and a common future). They serve as identification for the different countries.

The national symbols of Costa Rica are:

  • The Flag,
  • The Shield
  • The National anthem

In addition, the Guaria Morada as national flower, the Guanacaste, the national tree, the Yigüirro, the national bird and the Typical Cart symbol of the work.

These symbols have been created by executive decrees, but also another series of symbols exists that represent aspects of our homeland. For example: songs or dances like the Costa Rican Patriótica, the Punto Guanacasteco, the Monument to puan Santamaría, among others.
